Only Dance Radio July 2022 iz here. However, after lookin’ at tha tracklist,
I don’t feel anticipated; I have a feelin’ this edition gon sink. Will I be
right? We’ll have to find out! Not tha best start to this month, as I lost my
wallet at tha Philly airport two dayz ago & just three dayz ago, Skull Duggrey
passed away. Skull was a good lil’ connect of mine, over tha past 13 years. We
talked quite often & it was sad to see him suddenly pass, most-likely due
to his diabetes/dialysis issues. With that bein’ said, lemme just get this goin’
b4 tha madness of my full-tyme comes to kick me in tha ass, again! Start Tyme: 1:03 PM | End Tyme: 2:33 PM
Disclaimer: I type how I wanna type (frequent use of “tha” instead of “the,” “iz” instead of “is,” “a”-ending words instead of “er,” and a few others). I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it, I like it how I wanna like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. Sometymes, I may not rate a song too high on its first listen, but in tha future, I could be playin’ it more than a higher-rated song…

01.
Morgan Page & VINNE “On & On”
Label: Musical Freedom
Got to hear a sample of this on The Chainsmokers’ #Electro15, as tha Young Bombs were tha DJs that Friday. As far as tha song, itself, it wasn’t bad. Now, I get to review it. >>> Sounded like an instant start that just went into a chorus & drop? Odd but cool, I guess? Good to start off this edition with this kinda energy; lucky Morgan & VINNE! Liked that tha 1st 48—lol—seconds were tha chorus & a drop, just like them old dayz of long intros! Good shit… As far as tha female vocal, it’s str8; just a regular female to me. Sounds like she can go into tha pop world, one day. My Rating: 3.9
02.
Sigala & Talia Mar “Stay The Night”
Label: Ministry Of Sound/Arista
Got to sample this one on tha POOL player, recently. It sounds like tha next dance hit? We’ll see how much it grows on me. Got to hear it & add it to my playlist but am barely familiar with it. Guess that’s how new it iz, overall? Likin’ tha strong instant start, chorus & drop in tha beginning, here; definitely what’s up. As far as it keepin’ my full attention, sometymes, I doze off on tha chorus. I’ono why? Guess it’s just one of those growers? My Current Rating: 4.1
03.
John Newman “Holy Love”
Label: Warner UK
I knew his previous song, “Waiting For A Lifetime”, got boring fast. Doesn’t make me too anticipated fa this one, too. >>> Yeah, not really anything catchy for me in tha 1st verse & music. At least for a borderline popstar, he’s more dancey than your average male vocalist. With tha chorus, it’s okay; I’m likin’ that energetic drop! All about tha energy! Will this be a surprise grower? I’ono; let’s see how it does in tha future. My Rating: 4.0
04.
Lost Frequencies & James Arthur “Questions”
Label: RCA
Low anticipation, here. >>> JA & his ugly-soundin’ chorus start! Boring song, overall; just sounds like a slouched whiner on tha chorus & drop. My Rating: 2.3
05.
Duke & Jones “Lucid”
Label: Spinnin’
Likin’ that their recent track, “Vertigo”, has gotten more exposure than I thought. Now, Spinnin’ has their new track! >>> Off to an okay/potentially-interesting start with tha intro music… As far as tha 1st verse, it’s str8; as far as tha chorus, it’s str8, too. I think this an okay track, overall, but can tha dance world make anotha hit for D&J? My Rating: 3.6
06.
Cazzette x Electric Polar Bears x The Ready Set “Cloudy Heart”
Label: Antarctic
Looks like an odd combo but could be tha next hit, off this new label? >>> TRS almost sounds like good chicks on this track, at first. As far as tha combo, it seems good; just seems like a regular dance track to enjoy, just like EPB’s last collab single, “You Never Know”. With tha drop, it’s cool; it just makes tha track progress, basically. With tha rest of this, it’s okay. Let’s see how well this does, in tha future. Grower? I’ono but “You Never Know”, lol. My Rating: 3.7
07.
Felix Jaehn & Zoe Weiss “Do It Better”
Label: Casablanca/Republic
Doesn’t look like an interesting collab, imo… >>> Sounds like a vocal start I wouldn’t appreciate for tha 1st verse, here; just a lil’ blah… Hearin’ tha chorus & it’s pretty good, I’ll admit. For some reason, I’m feelin’ like I wanna give some props to tha drop; just a lil’… With tha rest of this track, it ain’t bad; still got that blah to it, at tymes… My Rating: 3.7
08.
Disco Fries, HARBER & Luxtides “Nothing”
Label: Spinnin’
Can’t believe it seems like yesterday, only 13 months ago today, where I was makin’ $0.00/hr., reviewin’ Luxtides’ 1st song, “Hero”, with Afrojack & David Guetta; crazy. At tha abandoned bunker, Bunkers of Alvira! Now, she’s credited on tha new DF & HARBER track; let’s get it! >>> Sounds like a good start with Luxtides singin’ good, with these vocals…! Also, nice music durin’ tha chorus; cool…! Tha drop’s pretty dope, too; keep up this kinda energy, y’all! Gotta luv how she sings tha title part; definitely in her own, catchy wayz! My Rating: 4.4
09.
HUGEL & Benjamin Ingrosso “Black & Blue”
Label: Warner UK
Let’s see what this other Warner UK track iz… >>> Sounds like a good vibe in tha beginning; good ta hear…! Tha chorus cool, too; great vibes from a male, this tyme…! Crazy if this becomes my top-rated track on here ‘cause of its guilty pop/alternative-soundin’ vibes! My Rating: 4.6
10.
Disco Lines feat. Morgan Harvill “Techno + Tequila”
Label: Arista
Such a weird-but-cool track, lol. Nothin’ I thought of addin’ right away; just sounds like a bonus song to make a good vibe last longer, basically. It’s all about tha “Techno” for me but my version would be renamed “Techno + Dat Reefa”, lol; real talk. Hope these two artists go further with their careers, too; I give them props. My Current Rating: 3.5
½tyme: Not as bad as I thought,
so far; most of tha tracks are okay, with some bein’ good. We had one that I
didn’t go for & one that went above & beyond, so that’s an interestin’
mix. Currently, tha average rating stands at a 3.8.
What will go down next? I…really…don’t…know…
11. Shane Codd “Rather Be Alone”
Label: Astralwerks/Capitol
This like an F-U to me; don’t like that he dubbed & sampled Whitney. However, it makes it worse when tha title’s changed ‘cause it originally tricks me into anticipatin’ it more, tha wrong way. With that bein’ said, Shane, take your Whitney & shove this one up your iggy-iggy-ass! My Current Rating: 1.0
12. Robin Schulz & David Guetta “On Repeat”
Label: Big Beat/Atlantic
Heard/Seen this one out there… *Rehears* Sounds like a good, long intro & then, tha awesome female vocals kick in, “On Repeat”! Nice lil’ energy in tha drop & how tha energy/sounds build, progressively! Anotha nice lil’ chorus part, too! Gotta luv tha repetitive energy! My Current Rating: 4.5
13. Nitti Gritti feat. Hadar Adora “Sex Drive”
Label: Spinnin’
Seen/Heard—lol, I flipped my 1st two words from tha last song’s preview start, lmao—Seen/Heard this one start to get out there. However, with this one, I barely remember it, so it’s goin’ for tha full-on review…! >>> Sounds like it’s off to a good start; sounds like a hot female on this track. Definitely dug his “Marching Band” track w/Surf Mesa & Lowell, despite tha song givin’ me COVID (playing during my test)! As far as this track, cool vocals & chorus but tha drop gets a lil’ distorted. Maybe, coulda called ya boy Surf up, lol? Then again, we’re all short-handed, these dayz; deep… Tha rest of this kinda decent but my interest starts to fluctuate. My Rating: 3.8
14. Lizzo “About Damn Time (Purple Disco Machine
Remix)”
Label: Big Beat/Atlantic
I’ono… I guess it was ‘cause of my troubled tymes of tha past, it makes me feel like, Lizzo still active? Like, I saw tha Big Beat/Atlantic & thought I was seein’ things. Then, I saw what I needed to see: PDM on tha mix. With that bein’ said, I don’t really have anticipation fa this one but let’s see what’s up. >>> Literally, just a disco’d-out track. PDM can be hard to judge, as far as a track I’d like. They have to have tha right vocalist to overshadow their disco’d-out music. As far as this track, like, Lizzo? Weird-soundin’ rappin’ in tha beginning & then, tha flow changes to singin’? I’ono… Chorus sounds like it’s a different flow, too, like, will every “damn” nightclub have this in they sets? I…’…o…n…o…! My Rating: 1.2
15. gardenstate & Bien “The Best Part”
Label: Anjunabeats
Think I saw this get out there on Diplo’s Revolution… >>> Sounds like some dreamy, cool lil’ vocals & music, here. I remember a gardenstate track from last year from tha POOL player; great ta know they have anotha track! Cool collab & catchy chorus; sounds inescapable…! Tha rest of this continues to stay catchy & dreamy; keep on dreamin’! My Rating: 4.2
16. Becky G feat. Karol G “MAMIII (Kryptogram Remix)”
Label: Kemosabe/RCA/Sony Latin
Not anticipatin’ tha latin… Goes good with Lizzo’s tymes? >>> Yeah, almost a full-on pass with tha language barrier in me. However, for some reason, I’m really likin’ these vocals! An all-English version one day, lol? I guess this can literally sneak past my pass, from my expectations. Either way, I’ono how well this’ll do, overall; great collab. My Rating: 4.0
17. Galantis “1x1”
Label: Big Beat/EMG
Now, tha Big Beat/EMG appears, for tha eyes that pay attention (mine)! Got ta hear this not too long ago & it has its catchiness to it. However, shame on y’all, Galantis, for not revealin’ who our new R&B diva iz, on tha vocals. Catchy lil’ chorus with tha “x” representin’ tha “1x1”; catchy lil’ music, too. Likin’ how tha chick references “Buffy” & tha “Slayer”, durin’ tha verse. As far as tha rest of this, it just continues its way on, without botherin’ anybody. My Current Rating: 3.6
18. Sam Smith “Love Me More (Regard Remix)”
Label: Capitol
Oh boy… >>> Just can’t get into Sam Smith & Regard; not a good combo. Like, slow-paced Regard can only save tracks with catchy sounds & synths… Hearin’ tha lil’ signature-sound part from Regard & it’s a fuckin’ tease! Ouch! Slapped in tha fuckin’ face by pure catchiness! It’s almost like I wanna just cut & paste that on to anotha Regard track, lol! However, combining all my feelings results in this one rating… My Rating: 2.8
19. Frank Walker x Sam Feldt feat. Zak Abel “Madness”
Label: Palm Tree
Damn, 2019 still tryna kick my fuckin’ ass, lol/smh? I saw Zak’s name & instantly thought of tha work release building & Duke Dumont’s collab wit him, “The Power”. Also, I saw this title & said, “Slowness”. Neva really got to dive in to this track as much, yet. How will it do on tha review? >>> An okay track; nothin’ really standin’ out with it & its slow vibe. As tha rest of this progresses, it doesn’t really do much fa me; I can’t really comment. My Rating: 3.0
20. Kx5 feat. Hayla “Escape (John Summit Remix)”
Label: mau5trap/ARKADE
A song that literally took off on its own. Started off tha April edition & ended tha July one; interesting. Though a song that seems potentially played out, it’s nice to have a John Summit remix to sweeten its dry, original vibes. Like how JS dubs tha “I’m invisible” parts & makes it like his own production. It’s kinda how I wanted Regard’s Sam Smith contributions on anotha track, one day. My Current Rating: 3.8
Overall:
Turned out ta be a decent edition, this tyme around. I felt a good portion of
tha tracks, while some went their own way, I guess. I know I’ll get through
these tough tymes like they’re nothin’. It’s just, let stayin’ occupied keep
tha tyme flyin’.
