Review #180: Promo Only: Dance Radio March 2009

Reviewed on 3.03.2009 (Review #180)

Yo, it’s FrankieThaLuckyDog. Feelin’ tha craving for this Promo Only, even though I’m not too anticipated (due to I have a feelin’ Britney Spears and Taylor Swift are prolly on this). I’m sayin’ this ‘cause I didn’t even look at tha tracklisting this time, lol! After tha GREAT Promo Only from last month, tha month went downhill ‘cause dayz after, rapper Nu$$ie, who I talk to his manager from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was murdered, so it was really fucked up. I didn’t wanna see tha tracklisting too fast, so we’ll see what happens. I’m curious about tha DANCE songs that will be on here. Here goes my review for Promo Only Dance Radio March 2009! Happy birthday to my boy Roscoe Da Wild Card, which we both were formerly from Lackawanna College. Start Time: 10:52 PM | Video Game Playing: The Legend Of Zelda – A Link To The Past (for Super Nintendo)

Quick Notes:
1. I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it) so any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating.
To tha artist/producer: Don’t get catchy feelin’s if I don’t like a song on a first listen. Things could change in tha future as I could love it, so you neva know!
2. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.
3. AL = Anticipation Level
4. MC = Music Choice (wit these letters attached, it adds to MC: D = Dance; E = Electronica; R = Rap; H = Hitlist; HH&R&B = Hip-Hop And R&B; SOTS = Sounds Of The Seasons)
5. PO = Promo Only
6. iPR = iPartyRadio
7. RE = Radio Edit
8. P105 = Party 105.3
9. PB = Perfect Beat
10. MS = MySpace
11. YT = YouTube
12. FB = Facebook
13. IC = In-consideration (of playing tha song)
14. HM = Hit mixer
15. Any other initials usually relate to tha artist/song I’m currently reviewin’.
16. DvD = Dance vs. Dance (meanin’ a Dance artist covered/remade another Dance artist’s song)

© 2009 CD Review (Review #180) reviewed on 3.03.2009 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. Kelly Clarkson “My Life Would Suck Without You (Chriss Ortega Radio Mix)”
Scared to see what tha 1st song iz… Iz it “Circus (Joe Bermudez Radio Edit)” from Britney Spears? *Checks* Oh, Kelly Clarkson. Tha song iz SO PERFECT for this time for me, as for tha haterz that like to get out of my life. iPR has this mix, so now we got tha radio mix. >>> It’s good to here another CO mix, and tha beginning music sounds pretty good. Kelly’s a lil’ watered down, but I guess that’s good for a dance mix. Sounds like a good HM, and tha slowness helps me get into it ‘cause tha original had that fastness, and it just bothered me everytime I heard it (wit all tha shit goin’ on wit me). Music iz DEFINITELY great throughout tha whole thing so far; what a great HM! As for tha song itself, it’s powerful in my opinion ‘cause of its effect of tha lyrics! She sounds great on this one, and it’s better than some of her other HMs. My Rating: 4.0

02. Beyonce “Halo (Karmatronic Radio Mix)”
I knew there was gonna be more HMs, and fast! No Dave Audé, so we’ll see what Karmatronic does… >>> I like their different beats. I prolly like tha original version better. Not too into these Dance remixes for this song (not EVERY song needs a remix). I do REALLY like tha DJ Escape & Tony Coluccio Vocal Mix of her “Diva” song (tha rappin’ Beyoncé); that music iz OFF tha chain! Feelin’ tha music in this one, as it’s tight, but I’m not too much into tha song itself. Finally, it ended, lol. Better than Dave Audé’s IMO. My Rating: 3.5

03. Kaskade Feat. Haley “Step One Two (Radio Edit)”
Yes, not a HM!! Another familiar song as it was 1 of 16 adds (ain’t that tha shit or what) on Music Choice Dance last week! Heard some Seal “Amazing (Kaskade Radio Mix)” type of beats in this, so you know it sounds pretty good; time for tha review! >>> Of course, those typical Kaskade vocals that sound good, and tha nice music. I don’t know about tha title, and tha chorus intro, but this should be another Kaskade hit on tha Dance areas! Nice verses on this “too”. ;) My Current Rating: 3.8

04. Taylor Swift “Love Story (Jason Nevins Radio Edit)”
Fuck, this iz on here! Different mix from Digital Dog, so maybe there’s a chance; I doubt it! >>> Well, it looks like it’s not fast JN… :( Nothin’ special here… I don’t see a single interest in tha song itself, and tha music ain’t nothin’ special for JN and a HM. Now, where’s tha Lesley Roy “Unbeautiful (Jason Nevins Radio Edit)” music? BTW, Taylor Swift iz such a HOTTIE! :) My Rating: 2.3

05. Chris Lake Feat. Nastala “If You Knew (Radio Edit)”
See this featured in mix show picks… I’m finally startin’ to feel “Only One” more now (it ain’t gonna be a playlist song for me; I just like hearin’ it on MCD). Let’s hope they have a better collab! >>> On “Only One”, it sounded like Nastala went tha sexy route wit tha way she sounded. On this one, it sounds like she’s goin’ a softer route wit her voice on this. Tha lyrics sound good during tha 1st verse, and now, hearin’ tha chorus, it sounds pretty good; nice job. Tha 2nd verse sounded pretty nice too. Tha music sounds great when it’s not tha verses. Maybe not super exciting to me, but we’ll see how it does down tha road for me. Gettin’ it to remind me of someone can help. My Rating: 3.7

06. Akon Feat. Colby O’Donis & Kardinal Offishall “Beautiful (Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Radio Mix)”
Oh shit! :tu I knew right after a Dance song that there’d be another HM (this bein’ 4 now), and I was lookin’ for this! I want this to be on my girl from Long Island’s CD I’m makin’ her (since tha original iz 2 months old now). Heard on iPR, and it’s another HOT MR/Akon collaboration!! Let’s see tha review: >>> Music DEFINITELY on fire! :tu And I just Google’d this, and only iPR came up (and not Promo Only). Tha original had a nice Dance/R&Bish style, but hearin’ tha HOT Dance remix does it! I like Akon’s “I wanna get wit you…” part wit tha chorus, but I like Colby O’Donis’s verse better than Akon’s. And KO’s part was great for this too; a great collaboration for another great HM! My Current Rating: 4.3

07. Britney Spears “Circus (Friscia & Lamboy Radio Edit)”
You know fuckin’ well this song HAD to be on here… I remember December in one word: J-Dirty. And December it ONLY was… Gotta have these songs that remind me of tha J-Dirty times in this March CD (he’s Down Bad, Baton Rouge, LA Rap group’s, manager)… SMH… Maybe if he could’ve given feedback to my latest music video, then it would be better. Hopefully this remix can take it to a new height, like Kelly Clarkson’s remix did for me just now! >>> Sounds like it has a club mix intro… Well, F&L ain’t cuttin’ it for Britney here… Let it remind me of J-Dirty or not; not much of a good mix here. Tha beat iz catchy during tha verses though. Britney’s older now, and that chorus sounds childish… LOL @ that “center of tha ring” part; I like how she says that, so I can “lol.” Now that Nu$$ie’s sadly gone, PLEASE, NO MORE HMs FOR EVERY FUCKIN’ POP/R&B SONG!!!!! My Rating: 2.6

08. Yenn “So Good To Be Wrong (Karmatronic Easy Beat Radio Remix)”
New song for me… Karmatronic again could be good… Iz this a HM? *Checks label online* Okay, not sure of tha label (not your typical Pop/R&B label), so maybe some AL for this… >>> Sounds like tha intro sounded like it cut off for a sec (that very first second). Sounds like some good vocals here… Not tha type of music I expected to hear after tha Beyoncé remix. Tha chorus sounds pretty good; catchy song here, so it looks like this a good one. Nothin’ else to really say, but it bein’ catchy throughout tha rest of tha song. My Rating: 3.9

09. Dean Coleman Feat. DCLA “I Want You (Dave Audé Edit)”
Another mix show song (according to what I saw)… Was gonna not look at tha ID at first, but I’ll do that 3 times in a sec on here. Let’s see what we got here; expectin’ somethin’ good! >>> Didn’t expect to hear male vocals… Unsure start so far, as tha beat iz slow. Not really into tha vocals, and tha music doesn’t really do much… Sorry, DA. :( And just lookin’ at that length (4:15), I feel like this song iz neva gonna end… Finally, it’s over. My Rating: 2.8

10. The Ting Tings “That’s Not My Name (Soul Seekerz Dirty Radio Remix)”
LOL @ this: Just like wit Kaskade @ No. 3, when I did tha July 2008 PO review, that was tha last time I did this without seein’ tha tracklisting first. It had Kaskade @ No. 3, and The Ting Tings @ No. 10. Now, on this one, Kaskade’s @ No. 3, and The Ting Tings are @ No. 10, again, lol. Plus, they forgot tha “The” in The Ting Tings’s name. And Soul Seekerz iz with a “z,” not an “s.” Well, I really like TTT, and what’s gonna be dirty about this mix? I like this song too. >>> LOL @ tha SS music! :rofl SS + TTT = An unexpected mix… It sounds REAL good for me to play, but as far as a rating, not tha best. Iz it dirty ‘cause of tha “they call me Hell” part? Question mark… My Rating: 3.6

½time: What a terrible start to this CD! No songs have caught me by tha throat and said, “LOVE ME!,” yet. :( I hope tha rest of tha CD iz fulla DANCE songs!!!

11. The Camel Rider & Mark Alston Feat. Christina Lauren “Get Together (Radio Edit)”
LOL @ another “The” missing in tha ID… Well, as much as I feel anticipation to NOT look at tha tracklisting, there’s always one song I accidently see on tha list, and it was this one this time. Shit, I didn’t even expect this to be on here… I typed it in PO to do a search to see somethin’ about it, and on accident, I saw tha “Radio Edit” in tha mix name, and just knew it was on this issue… And then I saw that it was No. 11, so I knew it was comin’. P105’s playlist may SUCK ASS for Dance music right now, but they got this one. Let’s see what I’m gonna say about it ‘cause it made it to my playlist, as well as my February 2009 YT favorites video… >>> Tha intro starts wit that music right away (sounded like tha YT one I had was from a YT club shortened mix). It’s good to hear some new female vocals, and just seein’ tha “camel” in tha artist’s name gave me anticipation to hear this (‘cause I pictured a desert and an Egyptian type of beat). Okay, hearin’ tha beat better now, and it sounds like tha music expands into different sounds, so that’s watz good! Sounds like Chris Lake or Electro type of beats when it does tha part around :45. Well, I wish there was more lyrics… It’s still a cool song though. Even tha ending had a club type of ending; it just kept goin’, lol. My Current Rating: 3.8

12. Wideboys & Dennis G “Sambuca (The Return) (Original Radio Edit)”
Make this 1 of 3 songs I don’t look at tha ID… >>> Good, it’s a song I don’t know. Intro sounds like a MCD club mix song from back in tha day… Not lookin’ like a good start… LOL @ tha “Zam-Booka” (lol/sp?). Rappin’ in this? This iz odd… They’re spellin’ their name, but I can’t picture how to spell it yet. Jamaican type of vocals also… I can see this bein’ catchy if it gets out there. If it doesn’t get out there, I doubt I’ll play it… maybe. I don’t know… Not too special for a FL, but exposure’s gonna be tha only bet. I seem confused when I’m typin’ this, so we’ll just let tha future speak, lol. Tha rappin’ and tha Zam-Booka part was tha only thing that got my attention. My Rating: 3.2
EDIT: Oh yeah, tha ID… Wideboys & Dennis G “Sambuca (The Return) (Original Radio Edit)”… Didn’t know it was Wideboys, but when you think of tha beat, it’s them. Shit, and this a Next Plateau song too… Well, blind listens can be bad FLs, lol. I’m sure this’ll be a future song. LOL @ my spellin’ of “Sambuca,” lol!

13. Lori Michaels “Wild Ride (Radio Mix)”
This looks like this gon be a BIG ONE!!! *Checks label* Oh, and PO doesn’t put “Records” in tha labels anymore (since tha August 2007 PO), but looks like a new label for me (Reform Records). >>> Well, tha BPMs DEFINITELY have it goin’ on, and those vocals sound like they’ll grow. Music iz great for this one! :) Gotta luv tha title too for a Dance song! Sounds like auto-tone’d vocals wit tha “riiiiide” part? Sounds better for females for that. I can’t believe how many fuckin’ rappers obsess tha auto-tone shit; it makes them sound REALLY messed up! Can’t stop sayin’ how good this iz…!! Just REALLY fits tha Dance genre, and I’m glad PO were smart to discover this artist and this label! My Rating: 4.5

14. Chelley “I Took The Night (Clean Radio Edit)”
I KNEW this was gonna be on here, but more like tha last song. MCD got this and I was like, “wasn’t this on Hot 97?” Yes, it was, and MCD playin’ it quite often for a low rotation song. >>> LOL @ tha “clean,” and that MCD has tha dirty version (“these chicks” replaced with “bitches”)!! Sounds like some typical BPMs wit a dark type of club beat. Sounds like a House song with all tha repetitiveness, but it more on tha mix of Urban with a Danceish beat. MEGA catchy, and it finna take over tha world on prolly every source. She sounds good too. My Current Rating: 4.1
EDIT: Checked tha label, and LOL @ Ultra signin’! :rofl

15. Leah Renee “Imaginary Boyfriend (Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Radio Mix)”
Tha 2nd of 3 songs I’m not goin’ to look at tha ID. At this point, I feel there’s no more HMs! :) >>> Sounds like a familiar/new beat… Sounds like a GREAT voice, and good music too! Tha music iz REAL NICE, and it sounds like tha title will be somethin’ with imaginary… HOT vocals and great combination here; tha chorus iz pretty good too for this! You know I’m DYIN’ to check out tha ID, and tha label it’s signed too! Pretty nice verses, and I like tha bridge wit tha “credits roll” part! I wonder who’s on tha mix… Whoever it iz (even if it’s just “Radio Edit”), they deserve lots of $$$!! :tu GREAT song right here! My Rating: 4.4
EDIT: ID check… Ooh, newbie, but MR on tha mix! Damn, I’m glad he gave another HOT beat to another HOT song, better yet this time, a HOT female! Her name sounds REAL HOT, so I’m REALLY lookin’ forward to seein’ her pics! :) Let’s see tha label… Scion Music Group <- Yes, they put tha “MG” part! Glad to see another new label!

16. Beyoncé “Diva (Maurice Joshua Radio Edit)”
A 1st on PO: Same artist twice, lol. Looks like another wrong mix; I can tell! Just knowing that tha DJE/TC mix was HOT, what’s this gon be? How Beyoncé gon rap on a MJ mix? >>> LOL @ tha length (4:36)… Wow, WRONG beat here… And “shit” iz edited (of course, lol, but on tha other mix, it’s not (same wit MCD too, lol)). LOL @ how it says, “I’m a diva;” mixed differently. She did her thang on tha original, over a similar Lil’ Wayne “A Milli” type of beat, and iz gr8 for tha females. But, tha DJE/TC mix kicks a lot of ass, unlike this boring mix! Why are all these mixes I don’t like so fuckin’ long? Let tha DANCE songs be long!! There’s like nearly 2 minutes left!! Well, PO had it right wit tha other Beyoncé remix, but not this one. On tha last “no tracklisting preview” PO I did (tha July 2008 one), there were 2 “Shake It”s, and now there’s 2 Beyoncé songs, lol. Great ending, lol. My Rating: DJ Escape & Tony Coluccio Vocal Mix: 4.3 | This Mix: 1.7

17. Christian George “Dancin’ (Like There Is No Tomorrow) (Wideboys Radio Mix)”
Oh, CG iz back wit WB too… I saw tha title, and expected a female… Well, you know I love those WB beats, so let’s see their 2nd appearance on this CD… >>> I did get to like “Strangers” better once it got exposure, but I’m not feelin’ these soul type of beats/vocals in these songs on this CD… Decent chorus, but I guess tha lyrics in tha verses are good; that’s about it. LOL @ tha “and your boss iz a jerk” part, and tha “time to raise some hell” part. I guess I’ll give him props on tha lyrics. LOL @ tha ending havin’ tha same sound effects as tha “Strangers” ending. This’ll need exposure if it wants spins with me. I can see it bein’ a future playlist song, but tha exposure’s gonna have to come. My Rating: 3.1

18. ATFC Feat. Rae “Give Me Luv (Oceanic Trench Radio Mix)”
Looks REAL GOOD on tha ID! Tha “luv” in tha title, tha mix name (looks like it’ll be Vocal Trance? *Crosses fingers* I thought I had seen tha artists somewhere (like PB). We’ll see what happens when I hear it. Please be good!!! >>> Well, tha Vocal Trance part iz squashed ‘cause it ain’t Vocal Trance… Okay, checkin’ tha ATFC artist to see if they were in mix shows, and tha Chris Lake song came up (as their mix), so that’s where I’ve seen tha name of tha artist. As for this song, a turn on, but sounds kinda decent wit tha music. Maybe I needed to hear tha Vocal Trance prediction? Of course! It sounds slow just thinkin’ about it, even though it’s only 3:18. Tha verses are good, and tha vocals are good too. I’m lookin’ forward to see what Rae looks like (if I can find her on MySpace). Sounds like this’ll be a good playlist song. Tha ending sounded good (those last like 20 seconds). My Rating: 3.6

19. Nick Lachey “Patience (Mike Rizzo Funk Generation Radio Mix)”
Was anticipating tha 3rd MR mix, but oh no, it’s NL… >>> Of course, MR doin’ his thang with tha beats! Sounds like a remake on tha chorus, but sounds like it’ll be a good HM. I thought I saw this on MCH (tha original version)… Yeah, it came up under February 1, 2009 on my New Music Page (that I keep note of when every song gets out there; it’s like over 250 pages long now, lol (been keepin’ track since December 2003)). I guess I can say that this iz a good song here, so good thing for a remix that MR just did ASAP. :tu My Rating: 4.0

20. Pitbull “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) (Promo Only Clean English Edit)”
Tha final “blind review” song for me on this CD. Please be a fast Dance song!! *Says a prayer* >>> Wow, lol. I prayed for a fast, Vocal Trance song. After seein’ Ultra signin’ this, I KNEW this was gonna eventually be on PO! And since Pitbull’s label, TVT Records, disappeared, he now iz on random labels (which Ultra signed this, lol). Neva got to hear it ‘til now, and it’s a BIG Party 105 song… I can’t listen to clean versions of Rap songs, so as long as I have tha dirty version. It sounds catchy, and tha verses do good for me. Definitely a good chorus. I don’t really listen to Mainstream Rap music anymore (‘cause of how wack a lot of it iz), so most of tha shit I be listenin’ to iz Louisiana Rap music; I just LOVE their movement, and most of it’s underground, so I’m like tha only one showin’ a lot of it luv. Most of it comes from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It’s just tha BEST THING when tha artists on my playlist I talk to/promote/help and good shit like that. I guess this’ll be one to listen to though. Not sure of a playlist song for me, but he did his thang on that “75, Brazil Street” beat. I do like him rappin’ on Dance beats (this, Frederico Franchi’s “Cream” for “Krazy”, and Enur & Natasja’s “Calabria 2007” for “The Anthem”). My Rating: 3.9

21. The House Moguls Feat. MC Flipside “Get That Feelin’ (Radio Edit)”
Wonder what this’ll be like… Not sure if this tha last song, or if there’s a No. 22 song, but maybe anticipation here… Better not be a soul beat, and with there bein’ an MC, will this be more rappin’? >>> Sounds like some random vocals… Tha beat got better around 1:01… I like how tha beat had an uprise throughout tha first minute of tha song. I’m gonna check what label it’s signed to when I’m done with tha review, but off of a FL, it sounds like a Ministry Of Sound song… A catchy song with nothin’ really goin’ on… Maybe a good playlist song for me, but really, what iz goin’ on here? Well, it faded out; decent song. My Rating: 3.4
EDIT: Label iz System Recordings. It’s rare that they have that label on PODR.

Overall: End Time: 1:28 AM. What? It’s over?? C’mon… Prolly tha worst PO I eva rated… I can’t even speak on this… There were a very small amount of GREAT songs (LOL @ Nick Lachey bein’ like in tha top 6 or 7 for me), and I saw myself havin’ bored ratings throughout most of tha boring songs on here… Really PO, look at me when I say this: Nu$$ie got murdered, why not murder tha excessive amount of hit mixers? And I know it’s not your fault on high BPM songs, but tha Dance industry needs to have a LOT more songs with high BPMs ‘cause look at tha songs that made Dance music BIG, especially earlier in this decade/last decade! Most of them have BPMs of at least 133, and were HUGE!! People in tha Dance industry need to make faster music! I’m sick of only seein’ 1-2 out of 20-22 songs that are REAL fast on here! Like, not even lookin’ at tha BPMs, I was able to spot tha fastest song on here (No. 13), and I sadly had a failed attempt at guessin’ tha No. 18 song’s BPM status. Well PO, keep searchin’ for them HOT Dance songs that need tha exposure!!
