Review #1,397: Promo Only: Dance Radio May 2014

Reviewed on 4.30.2014 (Review #1,397)
Unlisted link to live review I did of this PO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqmvmq3Whms

I finna do a live review for Promo Only: Dance Radio May 2014. Should be an interesting CD, though I think ½ of it may be ehh… It was great meeting my review partner, Mixmaster Al, last Saturday, and this CD may just remind me of him! So, without further or do, let’s get inta this! Also, this tha 1st PO since April 2011’s that there’s 22 songs on here! Why’d it take so long fa 22, since EDM blew up?! Start Time: 5:01 PM | End Time: 8:33 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

© 2014 CD Review (Review #1,397) reviewed on 4.30.2014 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. Tiësto Feat. Matthew Koma “Wasted”
Casablanca / Republic Records on tha label, here. Now, 112 BPM fa Tiësto? What could go over, here? It has ta have, like, tha best sound effects and vocals, if it wants to qualify for quality, ya feel me?! So, here we go! >>> A pretty bad start. Matthew, are you “wasted?” “Laundry,” huh? Ehh, beat’s cool with tha sound, but it really sounds pop, here… Feelin’ it a lil’ better with tha 2nd chorus; it sounds like a big summer song? Old Tiësto fans must hate this sound/speed!! LOL!! My Rating: 3.4

02. Rita Ora “I Will Never Let You Down (R3hab Remix Radio Edit)”
Columbia Records, here, just like her previous releases, I believe? She was also #2 on tha September ’12 edition wit UK rapper, Tinie Tempah, “R.I.P.”! But, this iz a comeback, so, in a HM perspective, I’m lookin’ forward to hearin’ what R3hab had ta cook fa this UK lady, right chea!! >>> Sounds like a good start; feelin’ Rita’s vocals, as well as tha R3hab beat. Tha chorus sounds good; almost sounds like an original version of a dance song, it could qualify for… Nice lil’ drop from R3hab, too; great for this remix! Likin’ tha lil’ guitar part around 2:24! My Rating: 4.1

03. NAPT “Come On Surrender (Chris Lake & Nom De Strip Remix)”
Off of Chris Lake’s Rising Music label, which TJR has dropped some jointz on, recently. NAPT were on MCE, at times, especially durin’ 2004/2005 with their “Take Me Away 2005” song. Now, EDMin’ it up! I’m lookin’ forward ta hearin’ this one; should be good! Wonder who gon be—if there iz—on tha vocals? >>> Sounds like a Martin Solveig-like vocal song… So far, it’ll have ta pick up, fa me! Music’s not too bad on tha drop; it’s acceptable… Repeatin’ chorus, here? Guess it’s on tha house tip… Overall, this just seems decent, for tha most part… It’s kinda boring, so my rating ain’t gon be too high… My Rating: 3.1

04. Cascada “Blink”
A new Robbins song, here! It’s déjà vu, right now ‘cause back two years ago, on tha May ’12 CD, tha #5 song on this disc was U.V.U.K. “Blink”, with tha same BPM, and nearly tha same length/intro? Not to mention, U.V.U.K. are fans of Cascada, so it’s kinda odd if this turns out to be a cover, which Al, you told me it was! OMG, here we go!! Dunn, dunn, dunn!!! >>> Even has tha same beginning as U.V.U.K.? I swear, that night after I saw Al, I had a dream about what this sounded like. In my dream, it was Cascada singin’ Lingen & Moore’s 2004 “Passion” song, during tha verses, but U.V.U.K.’s song, during tha chorus. OMG, I can’t believe this; would’ve sounded better if it was a complete, original version! Such a fuck-up move on Robbins’ behalf! I mean, music’s a lil’ watered down, especially keepin’ tha “whoa, oh, oh” part, during tha chorus… Great vocals, but still, a fucked-up move! I can’t believe it’s such a copycat move!! I still can’t believe tha length and intro are tha same!! My Rating: 2.2

05. Manufactured Superstars Feat. Jarvis Church “Stay”
Black Hole Recordings on tha label, tha old label of Jes’ imports and all that good shit. Their “Like Satellites” song got a lil’ boring, like you kinda predicted, after a while. This new song’s on MCD, and it’s okay/good, for a male-vocal song. Here goes my full listen, right now! >>> Music during tha chorus builds up my excitement, just a lil’. Drop’s pretty good. It has a bit of a rip-off “Hey Brother”-kinda sound, but more to tha full EDMness, I guess? That “din-nin-nin-niiin.” I’ll give this tha satisfaction; we’ll see how it does with me. I mean, “Like Satellites” got, around, 34 spins with me. I dunno, this’ll prolly be around there, but anything could happen, in tha future! My Rating: 3.9

06. The Bloody Beetroots Feat. Peter Frampton “The Beat”
An Ultra song, here… MCD got this pretty quick; not sure how my AL gon be… I honestly think it’s low… >>> See, this iz tha kinda shitty start. Sounds like some old Daft Punk-like vocals… Then again, it sounds like a kid bein’ hypnotized? Like, not a kid, but, I dunno… Typical TBB music, here, and I guess it’s house, once again! Or, not? Here’s a verse, and it’s pretty lame… At 1:07 around, it sounds like a cell-phone ringin’! LOL!! See, tha music at 1:46 sounds nice, for an intermission, but for a real dance song! My Rating: 2.0

07. Cash Cash Feat. John Rzeznik “Lightning”
Big Beat Records in tha buildin’, just like their previous release. Surprised they recruited Goo Goo Dolls’ lead singer, John Rzeznik. Who would’ve thought, two decades ago, that tha Goo Goo Dolls would be in tha dance world? Well, here they are, with Cash Cash! And, fact: Goo Goo Dolls actually had tha very-first song on my Top 10 countdown, back on July 5, 2000; lol, random thinking! Well, I only turned 12, at tha time, so I only knew pop music, before I could get access to my dance music, underground rap, etc.! Now, let’s get inta this, since MCD has this! >>> I can’t believe Goo Goo Dolls iz on this dance track! Feelin’ tha beats, here; better than some of tha male-vocal songs, here! Some acoustic instruments in tha beginning, here; not bad, but I’m feelin’ tha chorus, I guess? Tha drop’s decent; I dunno, but I get more in tha mood for Goo Goo Dolls-like songs, so this’ll be an easy IC? Hearin’ tha drop for tha 2nd time, and this iz gonna be an interestin’ spring anthem! I don’t think it’ll be on my Spring Anthems video countdown, but it’ll be one of those songs that gets you through tha spring! My Rating: 4.2

08. Breathe Carolina Feat. Karmin “Bang It Out (Gazzo Radio Edit)”
Fearless on tha label (I think that’s alternative, or somethin’?)… Well, two artists that were mainly big in 2012 return for a collaboration. Hmm, I wonder what this gon sound like? >>> Kinda has those vocal vibes of #6… Umm, it’s barely okay, so far… I don’t get it with these not-so-good-soundin’ beats/remixes; what’s goin’ on, here? Can’t we get better music? You would think I’d IC it for tha hell of it, but tha music ain’t really all there, fa me! B…O…R…I…N…G…! Ugh, “sweat iz drippin’?” Smelly!! Music sounds a lil’ better at 2:37; that’s more of an AL I’d have, but tha whole entire track has gay music… My Rating: 1.7

09. Foxes “Holding Onto Heaven (The Chainsmokers Radio Edit)”
Once again, RCA Records. We got “#Selfie”s on tha remix, here! MCD got it, and I gave it a full listen, and it sounds pretty nice! Could have a decent song on here, finally! Here goes tha review! >>> Of course, nice vocals, once again, and “#Selfie”s tend to make some nice beats, here, during tha verse! Who would’ve thought fa some picture-takin’ dudes? Likin’ tha “oooooohhh” durin’ tha chorus; nice one again, Foxes! At least I have a job now, unlike tha failing “Youth” dayz! Everytime it would come on MCD or MCU EDM U, I’d think, “Oh, what a loser I feel, failing to get tha news station job!” But, tha drop’s nice, here, and this iz a nice track fa a nice/normal year! My Current Rating: 4.4

10. Calvin Harris “Summer”
Columbia Records. This was playin’ when I was eatin’ lunch with Al! Almost was tryin’ to avoid a FL ‘til this PO, but it was inescapable, and I got a FL on MTV’s Clubland, durin’ tha 3 AM hour. Back to tha Harris vocals, and it’s good; I’m feelin’ tha music and vocals, especially that “din-din-din-din” in tha background. Cheesy to put “skies” in tha lyrics. Of course, can’t have that word in songs, but this’ll qualify, at least. Tha drop’s nice; I remember tha “I’m Not Alone” dayz! Pre-droppin’? I’m glad tha pop world really gave him continuous chances, even if it wasn’t a pop artist on tha vocals. My Current Rating: 4.4

11. 3LAU Feat. Bright Lights “How You Love Me”
When I got it, I thought it was under 3LAU’s BLau Entertainment label / Universal Island, but it’s gettin’ a mainstream release under Casablanca / Republic. P105 was tha 1st to get, and MCD picked it up, too! Just like “Escape”, it may take some time to get better with me. I didn’t think “Escape” was gonna be memorable, like, great memories with me, but it lured out Gunplay on shuffle, and it got +20 spins fa tha lureout! So, it did pretty good on my YEC! 71 spins? Neva would guessed! I read tha YouTube comments before hearin’, and I gotta agree: Great lyrics! “I need a friend; someone who’s gon stand by me ‘til tha end.” Great job by tha sexy, 31/32-year-old, Bright Lights, a.k.a. Heather Bright! Luv purple hair! Greeted a customer with purple on, and it was great! My cousin, Jen, has purple hair now, too! “How you love [dat],” right? Catchy chorus, and tha drop’s pretty nice… I don’t think anything’s gonna jump out, based off this weak 1st ½… Such a dedicated Bright Light! Wish more people were like this, but for tha “love” of tha music business! I deal with so many people that are just like, “That’s between you two; leave me outta this!” Gee, like you’re really great! My Current Rating: 4.3

½time: So far, not too great of a CD. We have some shitty vocals, vs. some boring music tracks, as well as some incorrect-coming-of-artist songs, such as Tiësto or Cascada! With that bein’ said, tha average CD rating’s only at a lousy 3.4, right now! I can’t believe three songs are under 2.5, already!! Shitty!! Let’s see what else gon happen wit tha 2nd ½; we need an exciting moment on this live review!! Please?!

12. Route 94 Feat. Jess Glynne “My Love”
4th & B’way on tha label? Sounds like 4th & Broadway in NYC? Weird, and this iz on MCD, as well as MTV Clubland, and with this 120 BPM, you think I gon be immediately turned on? Didn’t get a full listen, but from what I heard, it’s disappointing… >>> Vocals don’t even sound like a hot female; just sounds like some deep house that’s not really exciting. Nice music ta fall asleep to, but if I have to get up for work at 3:15 AM, there’s not really any drifting off, anymore, unless I’m off on one of tha weekend dayz… Very dry house music, here, as I just pick my nose and lick it!! My Current Rating: 1.9

13. Tony Arzadon Feat. Chanel Dror “R U Jealous Yet”
Skam on tha label (NHL). P105 has this, but ID’d it without TA. I don’t think I paid attention to this, so I could just imagine how this review gon go, for a full listen… >>> Yea, I prolly didn’t pay too much attention to this ‘cause it sounds like Taylor Swift, and it sounds poppy… Talk about Tayloring tha Taylor! Stealin’ her shine like Kanye West? Can’t really feel these pop lyrics. I remember with shit like Tony Moran & Warren Rigg, I would feel ‘cause of tha tight music. But, I dunno about this… Drop’s pretty decent, but I can’t really get into these lyrics, or stealing vocals! I am “jealous” that this PO’s suckin’; could be way better on camera, but I guess it’s good fa constructive criticism! My Rating: 2.7

14. Mariah Carey “You’re Mine (Eternal) (Fedde Le Grand Remix Radio Edit)”
Island Records. *Sigh* A repeat song on here? From tha 3/14 CD, which had JS on tha mix, I dunno if this iz called for…? Then again, this shitastic PO gon feature this again!! >>> Sounds like a watered-down version of tha Donna Summer remix Laidback Luke did of “MacArthur Park”, from tha 11/13 PO… Nice chorus, and finally, a real-soundin’ drop. Why couldn’t this be an actual dance track? Kinda boring, right after… My Rating: 3.8

15. Maurizio Marquez Feat. Danni Rouge “Record Player”
Off tha Eunoia label (nice and European?), this looks like it could be good, if it goes in tha right direction! DR on tha vocals should be anticipatin’, I hope? First big song fa me? I dunno if I should have that kinda AL, but here we go! >>> A “slow” start, here… Kinda sounds off-beat, a lil’ bit, though tha timing’s right… It’s a decent chorus, but can we not be so slow? Drop’s nice; I’ll fuck wit it… Nice warped sound during tha 2nd verse, though tha music could be catchier… Can’t wait for tha day where DJs go to tha 133+ BPM level, to create their catchiness! Of course, this 128 BPM sound can get boring easily, when everyone’s doin’ it!! My Rating: 3.5

16. Jus Jack “Stars”
Tiësto’s Musical Freedom label on tha label, here! Tha “Smoke” Jus Jack? Can’t wait to hear some excitement, finally?! >>> Got some unknown vocals, here… Sounds like a good effort wit tha vocals and beat… Nice lil’ build-up at :55! Drop’s better than some of tha shit on here, too… Vocals remind me of The Aston Shuffle “Can’t Stop Now” (9/13 PO). Feelin’ how it sounds better around 1:25, especially that it sounds like meteors bein’ shot at you!! Gotta luv tha space effect! Tha 2nd verse sounds pretty good, too; almost could’ve sworn this would’ve fallen under tha Spinnin’ label! My Rating: 4.3

17. tyDi Feat. Dia Frampton “Stay”
Wow, anotha Frampton on this CD? MCD just had this one, which they got. However, I first saw it on MTV Hits. Robbins signin’ this one… As for me, well, it’s very country, or, maybe bluegrass in tha beginning? Anotha Avicii-like style, smh! Really not feelin’ this at all; can’t believe Robbins wants tha Avicii fame! Go back to tha 142 BPM, Cascada fame ‘cause that’s when you went pop! Sorry, but this iz just garbage fa me! Of course, “Let’s take a trip to Tennessee?” Naw, I want Memphis, “Tennessee,” where my boy, Snootie Wild’s from! Yea, “Yayo” (cocaine) over this shit, all day!! What were they thinkin’ with tha drop, here? It just doesn’t work!! When will that bluegrass guitar stop?!? Banjo? Whateva tha fuck it iz!! My Current Rating: 2.1

18. Mr. Probz “Waves (Robin Schulz Radio Edit)”
Ultra on tha signing… Damn, anotha MTV Hits Clubland joint, here… *Yawn*… >>> Tha slow, 120 BPM music can be okay, at first, but then, tha vocals come… What’s with this 120 BPM sound takin’ over? Already, there’s been two jointz on this CD at 120; it’s not happenin’ with this deep house shit! Great to think of summer, but with this shitty weather, we ain’t gettin’ no summer with these “waves!” Boring; can’t take this!! My Rating: 1.2

19. Kiesza “Hideaway”
Off three labels: Lokal Legend, 4th & B’way & Island Records. MCD got this; I waited ‘til now to see if it was on here, for a full listen. And now, let’s get inta this! >>> Can be unique vocals, but tha 123 BPM can scare me… Then again, Adventure Club’s “Wonder” (from tha 3/14 PO) was a surprise, at that pace! Music sounds like it’s on a deep house tip, here. Tha vocals can be pretty good, if they stay in their lane! Really was hoping for some surprise music, but this deep house effect ain’t gonna cut it!! C’mon, no Adventure Club sound?! Nice beats around 1:19, but c’mon! Either way, I’m not completely turned off, but in a world of tight music from tha past, this doesn’t come close. This gon need some great, outstanding moments to stand out, fa me, as far as it bein’ a memory! My Rating: 4.0

20. Alexis Salgado “Touch The Sky”
Rod Carrillo and his Carrillo Music label!! Now, they had three bangerz this year, so far: “Clappin’” (1/14 PO), “Thundergod” (2/14 PO) & “Only The Brave” (3/14 PO)!! Hope this brings tha AL outta me!! >>> Sounds like a true dance song, fa tha start! Music almost sounds a lil’ deep, like, but it’s pretty good… Tha chorus’ pretty nice, too. Ehh, an okay drop; tha climax gave me an eargasm that failed, a lil’… Tha music sounds great durin’ tha verses, but c’mon, these drops really need to be worked on! My Rating: 4.2

21. John Legend “All Of Me (Tiësto Radio Edit)”
Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. label & Columbia Records. Well, MCD got this a while ago, and I swear, if I hear this at work one more time, with those sneaky vocals, durin’ tha chorus, OMG… And, this came on while I was eatin’ lunch with Al. “Allllllllllllllllllll;” noooooooooooooooo…!! Why does this dude get EDM recognition with these remixes? Screw tha Benny Benassi song that started this shit!! Well, not that I took an interest to give this a full listen, but at least tha chorus only had an “allllllllllll,” and not repeatin’, like tha original! It’s like, how did this song go pop and make tha Top 10 in Billboard?! Thought he was full R&B, and never pop? Such boringness! My Current Rating: 1.9

22. Adventure Club Feat. The Kite String Tangle “Wonder (The Chainsmokers Radio Edit)”
A repeat song, too. Didn’t think a song this tight would get a re-entry on PO… Almost afraid to hear a remix, since tha original iz super tight!! This was some great job-hunting music; gotta luv it!! Now, how we gon end this PO? >>> Music’s decent, so far. Feelin’ tha chorus/pre-chorus part, with tha music! Nice dance/“#Selfie”-like drop, here, that’s not too bad. Either way, tha melody of tha original version’s way better! Goes good for my last dayz of bein’ 25, as after June 21, we’ll be bringin’ in some new jointz, sayin’ goodbye to this excellent spring, and hello to a hopefully-good summer! My Rating: 4.1

Overall: This CD had ta be tha worst PO I eva reviewed, and I’m sorry that it’s on camera! But, at least you got tha real side of me, a bunch of times. Such a disappointment between tha deep house, tha 120 BPM songs, tha terrible vocal attempts, tha country/bluegrass shit, and not-too-hot drops. I can’t even believe what’s gonna be my #1 fa this CD. *Blushes* But, that’s how it goes, sometimes. At least you got a real sense of a live review and how I be reviewin’ them, typically!

EDIT: I can see this bein’ one of tha worst POs for me, as at tha time, I was crazy about Snootie Wild. Just after this review, his Twitter account responded to me. When I gave it my number to get a hold of me, someone else got a hold of me, and was proud of my support. However, just five dayz later, they got offended by me tellin’ them to subscribe to my YouTube, but they were followin’ me on Twitter & Instagram. From there, I didn’t get my free shirt in tha mail and got unfollowed! See, tha POs can predict what comes up in life, especially for that month!!
