Review #2,035: Promo Only "Dance Radio February 2023"

Reviewed on 1.25.2023 (Review #2,035)

Been a lil’ tied up, tryna get 2022’s last leftovers out tha way… Now, I finally have a quick hour ta review Promo Only Dance Radio February 2023! I see some familiar faces on here, includin’ some new tracks; we’ll see how err-body blends in, here… Start Tyme: 6:08 PM | End Tyme: 7:16 PM

Disclaimer: I type how I wanna type (frequent use of “tha” instead of “the,” “iz” instead of “is,” “a”-ending words instead of “er,” and a few others). I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it, I like it how I wanna like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. Sometymes, I may not rate a song too high on its first listen, but in tha future, I could be playin’ it more than a higher-rated song…

01. The Chainsmokers x Cheyenne Giles “Make Me Feel”
Label: Musical Freedom
Kickin’ this edition off on my new laptop & with this collab… Still haven’t got my laptop to correctly correspond with my AUX cord/earphones, so I have to play this off my old laptop… Got to get a sample of it & it sounds like they’re goin’ in a nice house direction with this one? Lemme rehear… *Rehears* Sounds like a strong house start for a Chainsmokers song; likin’ tha “Rump Shaker” sound throughout this, as well… Also, likin’ at 0:50, when they imitate tha “Rump Shaker” sound! Sounds betta than I expected; good for a lil’ quickie…! My Current Rating: 4.2

02. Anabel Englund “Need Me Right”
Label: Ultra
Lol… For a slow one, this one seems like one to just play in tha background for me. I believe she’s hotter than this; music a lil’ too plain for Anabel’s hotness. As soon as tha 2nd verse starts, tha music gets a touch betta but still seems dry, in tha end. Needless ta say, even tho just a decent track, I feel like Anabel’ll have hotter tracks, as this year goes on…! My Current Rating: 3.7

03. Rêve “Whitney”
Label: Astralwerks/Capitol
Eva since I got a 1st taste of it through tha POOL player, back after my previous Louisiana trip on October 31, 2022, it’s been a euphoric one for me. I really love how Rêve loves tha dance-music scene, includin’ all her bangerz from tha past two years. Now, with this, I’m glad this iz gettin’ out there a lot; hoping for more success! No matter tha singin’ of tha late “Whitney”, Rêve throws her influences in tha track. It’s like, in 2004, when I was helpin’ TVT Records out, they had “Jacki-O” & I prolly woulda thought, “No way would Jacki-O appear in a dance track.” Now, here we are fa 2022/2023! Gotta luv her awesome vibes ‘cause they make me feel awesome! Strong & sexy on tha vocals & tha music on point, all throughout…! My Current Rating: 4.5

04. Sigala & MNEK “Radio”
Label: Arista
One of tha newer bangerz fa 2023, just like tha Chainsmoker/C-Giles collab… Gotta dig that beginning; glad Sigala knows how ta get tha excitement pumpin’…! Sometymes, MNEK can give me both a feel-good & semi-cringy feeling with his singin’ but it seems like tha double feeling passes, here… My Current Rating: 4.3

05. RAYE & 070 Shake “Escapism (dEVOLVE Remix)”
Label: Human Re Sources/The Orchard
Got a taste of this exclusively on Liquid Todd & BPM; now, it’s expandin’ its wings… Gotta luv RAYE’s combination of rappin’ & singin’; definitely sounds bangin’ with dEVOLVE & 070 Shake collabin’, here! Glad she said that “2019” was a part of tha past! My troubled tymes had violence later overshadow my previous trouble… Good goin’, R-A-Y-E! My Current Rating: 4.1

06. Tiësto “Lay Low”
Label: Musical Freedom
Oh boy, this one… Lol, my 1st listen was like, “A crowd, mixed with ‘The Business’.” My mom was like, “It sounds like a church,” lol. So, I have a feelin’ this’ll be one of those that juices up its spins, everywhere. We’ll see if it’s one of those TikTok tracks, later on… As far as tha song, itself, tha chorus can get me to wanna find a great environment/mood. Tha deep-pitched male vocals make me wanna believe they’re gonna take over tha dance world. We’ll see how much we’ll all “Lay Low” with “Lay Low”… My Current Rating: 3.8

07. P!nk “Never Gonna Not Dance Again (Sam Feldt Remix)”
Label: RCA
Tha 1st new-new track I haven’t heard, yet—well, remix… >>> Likin’ tha lil’ throwback-y sound of SF on tha remix, here; goes good with P!nk. No matter tha year, decade, it seems like we can’t escape P!nk! Nice combo of livin’ those tymes of “never” throwin’ “away” tha “dancing shoes.” I feel like with my passion for some things, even tho sadly, since everything went down with me, I think people & tha generation evolving iz what’s destroyin’ my generation. It’s like, I alwayz wanna keep tha good tymes goin’! I still rock a bunch of my shirts from 2008, like I was enjoyin’ my tymes as a 19-year-old. They blend in nicely with anything today, creatin’ my style of fashion. With that bein’ said, I give P!nk her props for her power, here… My Rating: 3.9

08. Afrojack & James Arthur “Lose You (Nicky Romero Remix)”
Label: Astralwerks/Capitol
Let’s see how this collab goes… Not anticipatin’ tha JA collab but NR, I am… >>> Sounds like a nice, euphoric, dark start from Nicky, here… Figured it was gon be a strong start on tha chorus… Oh, tha teasing!! Tha music in tha build-up, as well as tha drop’s too much of a tease!! Definitely lovin’ tha energy!! What a way to randomly wake up, especially when I have to leave to go to my full-tyme in 3 ½ hours! Life in tha fast lane! Inescapable! Can’t complain! It DEFINITELY beats tha troubled tymes!! As far as tha 2nd verse, I can appreciate it more, now that I believe in how strong tha music iz! My Rating: 4.9

09. Meghan Trainor “Made You Look (Joel Corry Remix Radio)”
Label: Epic
Alwayz believed throughout my nine years of knowin’ Meghan that she alwayz deserves to have success. It’s nice to see her appear on here, with JC on tha remix…! >>> Diggin’ tha “Gucci” start, includin’ how this wants to make people “look”! I feel like it wants to make me “listen,” lol. Diggin’ tha house vibe JC bringin’ to tha mix, includin’ all those “Gucci” dubz! Also, it sounds like she’s rappin’ a verse, here; definitely nice…! My Rating: 4.0

10. FRNKROK “Forever”
Label: Independent
Anticipatin’ an Independent-released track from FRNKROK, here… >>> A decent, slow start to kick thangz off… A decent 1st verse & now, tha chorus sounds okay. Hearin’ tha drop & it’s nice to progress tyme… Doesn’t seem strong like tha Nicky Romero drop on here but it makes for a decent track. With tha 2nd verse, this continues to sound just okay for me; I think it would have to grow on me… My Rating: 3.5

½tyme: Looks like a pretty nice start to an edition, here… I already knew a good portion of tha tracks, resulting in a 4.1 for tha average rating, durin’ tha ½tyme… Let’s see how we continue to play this out…

11. George Ezra “Dance All Over Me (Oden & Fatzo Remix)”
Label: Columbia
I don’t really anticipate George. However, let’s see how O&F’ll remix him, here… >>> Not as bad as I predicted; I like how his vocals are distorted. Oh, nice drop from O&F, here! Definitely smooth but strong! If this can be less about tha vocals & more about tha beats, then this’ll sound a lot betta fa me…! As far as tha rest of this, it was cool ta hear; shout out to O&F on tha remix… My Rating: 4.0

12. Armin Van Buuren feat. Philip Strand “Roll The Dice”
Label: Armada
A nice appearance from AVB, here; reminds me of how Felix Jaehn & Zoe had “Do It Better”, last year. Now, we have “Roll The Dice”, tha male version of “Do It Better”… Sounds good with tha male vocals, lyrics & FJ-inspired beats by Armin. My Current Rating: 4.2

13. Keanu Silva feat. Tiffany Aris “Unbreak My Heart”
Label: Casablanca/Republic
Looks like an anticipatin’ collab… How will this one turn out? >>> A decent collab; sounds like a nice chorus but tha slap-house vibe makes it seem a lil’ dry for me. It sounds like it gets betta toward tha near-end of tha drop, even tho it’s still a dry track. Tha 2nd verse keep this track goin’ but still, tha dry-soundin’ chorus doesn’t have much goin’ on for me… Nothin’ too terrible but I don’t feel like females should be decreased in pitch. My Rating: 3.6

14. Topic & HRVY “All Or Nothing”
Label: Astralwerks/Capitol
Looks like a collab that can be ehh or good? Lemme find out… >>> Sounds decent; tha drop has some energy to it… Hearin’ tha verse from HRVY & he sounds like a dose of “The Business”/a “slapped-down” (slap-house + decrease in pitch) HRVY… At least this ain’t dry & overrated like “Save Me” was, with Steve Aoki. This has some energy to it, at least… My Rating: 3.8

15. DVBBS “Just Words”
Label: Armada
Anotha appearance from Armada on this edition; interestin’… >>> Hearin’ this & tha female vocals sound like an R&B singer from tha good-ole ‘90s & ‘00s. As far as tha music, it has good energy; basically, it’s EDM energy at its finest… My Rating: 3.8

16. Sam Smith & Kim Petras “Unholy (David Guetta Acid Remix)”
Label: Capitol
Oh boy… >>> Great to see SS goin’ this route with Kim & Guetta but nothin’ I’d jump fa joy about. Musically, I’m glad Guetta made a remix; too bad ‘cause it shoulda went to somebody with a new track. My Rating: 2.7

17. Luude & Issey Cross feat. Moby “Oh My”
Label: Warner
Awesome to have Luude continue fa 2023! Definitely awesome with tha revisions he does of tracks from tha past! Now, with Moby & Issey Cross! Luv how Issey comes thru with tha vocals for tha DnB headz, as well as tha vocal loverz like myself…! Also, that lil’ Moby vocal sample in tha background, makin’ its surprise appearance a bunch of tymes…! Luv how one of my goals with this one iz that, when I go to turn my car off at my full-tyme, I leave tha music blastin’ for when I turn my car on leavin’ my full-tyme. This way, it’s tha feeling of feelin’ 100.00% all all tymes! Gotta have that mindset & energy, so shout out ta these three fa this one! My Current Rating: 4.8

18. Steve Aoki & Regard feat. mazie “New York”
Label: Dim Mak
Slowin’ down with Aoki, speak of tha devil… Got a quick sample of it while listenin’ to one of tha BPM shows & now, of course, Aoki makes an appearance here. *Rehears* Sounds like a good lil’ slow track. However, like my grandma says, includin’ myself, “‘New York’ iz too overrated!” We’re gonna be on a slowly-developin’ chapter, comin’ soon! My chapter’s comin’ later in tha decade! Stay tuned fa that! Even tho an overrated state, tha vocals aren’t overrated; they sound nice on this. My Current Rating: 3.7

19. Rudimental feat. L Devine “Break My Heart”
Label: Arista
Nice for more of that DnB vibe, after takin’ a slow break with Steve Aoki… Found out that L Devine iz tha one on tha vocals; she also’s on tha Tobtok & Adam Griffin track from two editions ago, too! Awesome sauce! As far as this, definitely luv that Rudimental returned to their fast, 174-paced DnB vibes! Tha vocals sound a lil’ like ‘wah-wah’ with tha title & how she’s a lil’ sappy with tha energy. However, Rudimental know how ta spice up her party. My Current Rating: 4.4

20. Skrillex, Fred again.. & Flowdan “Rumble”
Label: OWSLA/Atlantic
Been seein’ this appear a lot. *Rehears* Have to say, not a fan of this bein’ considered in tha “dance” world; this more for tha rap world. However, because of who’s on tha ID, that’s why it’s in for tha dance world. Too many dead-air spots throughout tha beat, even tho it’s hella creative. Definitely luvin’ all tha sounds & how they’re blended together. This trap vibe ain’t like tha dance-trap vibe I was used to; this more like a rap-trap vibe… With tha ending part with tha “DJ…,” that sounded tha most “dance” to me, outta tha whole song, lol. My Current Rating: 2.5

Overall: Seemed like an okay edition, with quite tha amount of energy to help out… Hating tha cold weather but at least it builds focus for me to continuously stayin’ in my locked-in go-mode of that future…!
